Up early and so very glad to be out of the cold. After a light breakfast it's off to Walgreens
for some last minute incidentals.
Walgreens has become our "go-to" place since we
arrived in Fort Lauderdale. In fact -- I
bought two jackets on Tuesday. It was
freezing here -- Walgreens's had winter jackets and vests -- 50% off.
In the morning I looked at a quilted jacket -- originally $19.99 -- by the time I came back that afternoon the
jacket was $7.49 -- I bought two. These
are quilted jackets that fold up in to a bag -- perfect for traveling.
After packing we arrive in the lobby for the hotel's shuttle
to take us to the Statendam -- we are on the ship by 12:30. Our room is pretty standard -- on level nine
with a balcony. Today is "getting
settled" day -- we are familiar with the Statendam since we've been on
this ship three times -- and the Veendam which took us across the North
Atlantic last summer is the same configuration.
Our first order of business is to straighten out our dining
situation. We have been assigned
"open seating" which on Holland America has not worked well for us. Our request is 8pm seating -- table for
two. It takes a day for the dining room
to sort out all the changes --- reassigning as requested. Tonight it is open seating all over the ship.
The emergency drill is at 3:15 pm --- the cruise lines take
this very seriously as they should. Roll
is called -- any passenger not participating will be required to leave the
ship.

| Fort Lauderdale Beach |
At 4:00 pm -- the Statendam leaves Port Everglades in Fort
Lauderdale. It is always a pretty sight
when a ship leaves port for the open ocean.
All areas of the ship from the Casino to the shops to the
Spa have drawings and specials to pull people in. I went up to the Spa/Health Facility to get
a schedule of the free classes -- they were having a drawing for a variety of
treatments -- I did not win.
As we present ourselves in the main dining room at 6:30 pm
--- Phil realizes he has forgotten to put on long pants. Just as well -- we end up in the Lido which
has the same menu -- works out great.
We are in bed by 8:00 pm -- Phil is exhausted and I'm right
behind him.
Thanks for Reading!
Pat
